Electric Rocket Pump
Project Overview
To develop a pump assembly with the intent of delivering fuel to a rocket engine via an electric drive system. This improves traditional rocket pump systems from 30% efficiency to 90%, while also reducing carbon emissions.
From start to finish this project was completed within a 15 week semester and was self funded + donations

Development
METAL ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Metal 3d Printing was leveraged heavily on this project to achieve complex geometry reliably and under a reasonable budget.
See Video for DMLS Process
Post Processing
Printed parts were then machined on all critical surfaces to ensure high tolerance.
Impeller
Machined Printed Impeller
Note part has not been de-burred
Testing
A keg was used as a reservoir and a custom welded manifold was routed to the pump for testing.
